May 8, 2026

Are you also one among the lakhs of aspirants preparing for the SSC CGL Tier II exam? If so, you need to prepare with a smart strategy to score 150 marks. Scoring 150 marks can boost your chances of securing the top post. A structured plan that balances concept, revision, mock practice and error analysis is required to help you reach the 150 marks milestone with confidence. Understanding CGL Tier II Exam Pattern Know the structure of the CGL Tier II exam before starting your preparation. This exam consists of two papers-  Paper I - Quantitative Abilities and Reasoning Paper II - English Language and Comprehension Additional Papers- Based on Preference To score 150 marks, you need to attempt the right questions with high accuracy. Follow a safe strategy of attempting 75-85% of the paper and maintain 85-90% accuracy. This balance ensures you maximize marks while avoiding negative marking. Master Quant with Concept Clarity Quantitative Aptitude carries significant weightage, and a strong basic with good concept clarity can give you an edge. Focus on the core topics - Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry and Data Interpretation. Some tips that will help you have good accuracy in this section include solving previous years’ questions, practicing short cut tricks and revising formulas. Consistency in Quant practice can easily push your score upward. Train your mental maths daily for a few minutes and master the elimination strategy for solving geometry and trigonometry questions.  English - Boost your Score with Daily Practice If you have prepared well, English is a scoring section. The key areas include reading comprehension, cloze test, detecting errors, and vocabulary.  Read editorials daily to improve comprehension. Learn at least 20 new words daily. Read a good English newspaper daily and practice grammar rules consistently. Accuracy is important in English; avoid guesswork. Mock Tests - Game Changer Enrol in a good SSC Coaching in Delhi and attempt their mock test series. These mock tests stimulate the real exam environment and highlight your strengths and weaknesses. It is advisable to give your mock tests at the same time as the actual exam shift.  Attempt 2 to 3 mock tests per week, analyse every test thoroughly and identify weak topics and revise them. Learn from your mocks to ensure score improvement.  Keep a performance analysis book where you record your mock errors and revise them at least once a week.  Time Management- Winning Formula Managing time is important to score 150 marks. Start with your strongest section. Do not spend more than 1-1.5 minutes on a question. If you come across any difficult questions, skip them and return later. Speed without accuracy will reduce your score due to negative marking.  Smart Revision- Never Underestimate It Smart revision plays a key role in high scores. You should maintain short handwritten notes for quick revision of rules and formulas. Revise weekly and focus on weak areas. Smart revision ensures better retention and faster recall during the exam. Consistent and Exam Ready Every 5 to 6 hours, a focused daily study can help you achieve your goal of 150 marks in the CGL Tier II exam. Follow a daily study schedule, avoid burnout and stay updated with exam notifications and pattern changes.  With discipline comes preparation, and with preparation comes confidence.  Mentorship - Motivation and Strategic Approach Preparing for CGL Tier II can be challenging for many.
